Cash gifts for a wedding instead of presents... How much do you give?

A girl I have known for years, but am not very close to, is getting married. She%26#039;s asked for cash gifts instead of presents because they already have everything.

How much (in $AUD) is a good amount to give, when you%26#039;re on a budget?

(I would normally spend about $50 on a gift, is $50 OK?)

A good rule of thumb: If you%26#039;re giving a cash gift in lieu of store-bought, give the amount you would have spent buying a gift. Don%26#039;t worry about what everyone else is giving them. It%26#039;s a gift from you, and it%26#039;s the thought that counts, if you%26#039;ll pardon the cliche.

50-100$|||$50 is fine. Don%26#039;t feel obligated to give more than you can afford.|||Ya $50.00 dollars is a good amount other people give more if that%26#039;s all you can afford then only give that amount,it%26#039;s not the amount of money that the person gives it%26#039;s the simple fact that they should be greatful they had received a gift at all. Some people don%26#039;t even bother giving anything and brush off the people who are getting marry. Also remember you have to spend money on the card that you will be putting the cash into.Wedding greeting cards can be mighty expensive too.|||However much you%26#039;d spend on a %26quot;real%26quot; gift is more than enough. I%26#039;d take some off for the tackiness of asking for money that way. If they have everything why do they need cash? Or just not go if I%26#039;m not very close.|||How about a gift card to a local restaurant or supermarket?

Any consumable item is an appropriate gift in this occasion.
